Dr. Pelton has served on numerous educational and cultural boards and committees, including the Board of Directors of the American Council on Education (past chair), the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, the Association of American Colleges & Universities, the Museum of African American History (Boston), and the Harvard University Board of Overseers. In 2020, he was recognized by the Boston Chamber of Commerce as a 2020 Distinguished Bostonian and included in the Boston Business Journal's 50 Most Powerful Leaders in Boston list.
