Before that, he was a senior member of The Boston Consulting Group’s health care practice and worked extensively in the health care sector with focus on pharma and biotech, particularly in regard to corporate and R&D strategy. He began his career at Merck & Company, Inc.’s (NYSE: MRK) MSDRL research unit. He also previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Avanir Pharmaceuticals, Inc. where he helped oversee the transition of the company from a research-based platform to a fully integrated CNS pharmaceutical company until 2015 when it was acquired by Otsuka Pharmaceuticals for $3.5 billion. Mr. Wheeler received his B.S. and M.S. in chemical engineering from Cornell University and his M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
